Red wine chocolate sirt-cake.

Posted on June 2, 2020 by chefswifediary

Joint collaboration with Mr. Chef

“Being on a diet isn’t easy.” This is all what we thought. No fried food, salad everyday, and definitely no cake. Wrong!  This cake that we are about to share ticks all the boxes and believe it, it is only 231 calories per portion.  Gluten free and full of sirt-rich foods that this cake will not only fulfil your cravings but also boost your metabolism. Exactly what you need to knock off those nasty excess pounds you’ve been hating.

No wasting time let’s get straight to it…

Serves: 16 portions

Difficulty: 2/5

Calories per portion: 231

Notes

If you are not worried about gluten free and wish to substitute the gluten free flour, you can simply swap for some all purpose flour.

Erythritol is a sugar substitute that is considered very safe to eat and very different from the usual sugar substitutes. I found it in Sainsbury’s and also available on Amazon.

I got 16 good portions out of this and it lasted over a week. But of course, you can do smaller or even bake in a loaf tin and don’t put the frosting.

Cake recipe

Ingredients

  • 65g gluten free flour
  • 200g buckwheat flour
  • 15g baking powder
  • 60g cocoa powder
  • 225g erythritol or 200g sugar
  • 2 tsp coffee granules
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric
  • 2 eggs
  • 250ml red wine or water
  • 1 orange juiced and zested
  • 125g extra virgin olive oil
  • 250g soy milk – unsweetened
  • 40g chopped walnuts
  • 40g chopped dates

Frosting recipe

Ingredients

  • 90g 85% chocolate
  • 200g yoghurt
  • 6 strawberries cooked for a few minutes with a touch of water

Method

1. Mix all dry ingredients.
2. Whisk in eggs, soy milk, and olive oil.
3. Prepare tin for baking. I used 9″ with greaseproof paper.
4. Bring red wine/water to boil with the orange juice and zest.
5. Bake immediately at 180oc for 40 minutes until cooked (poke a skewer inside. If it comes out clean, then it is cooked).
6. Leave the cake to cool.
7. For the frosting, melt the chocolate and then fold in the yoghurt.
8. Spread on the bottom half of the cake and then press the strawberries in.
9. Place the top part of the cake on top and lightly press.  Then, you are ready to enjoy!

Do you add the hot red wine, orange juice & zest liquid to the dry ingredients or let the liquid cool first.
