Instagram feeds have not been doing good apart from reaping our self-esteem apart. As much as we love posting our best shots to showcase the best part of our life, the social competition just keeps getting better with soaring apps assistance. The intensity of social upward comparison creates constant self-assessment of individuals, leading towards desires to become more than we are. Who we really are? There is an old Chinese proverb that says:
人比人,气死人
It says, constant comparing oneself to others will only make one angry.
Perhaps depressing. It is no surprise to see increasing narcissists at public places trying to get the best angle and perfect filter, doesn’t matter how awkward the situation is.
Truth is, we are probably doing the same as others whom we thought are better than us – cushioning reality far away from our true self. Surely, the constant craving for attention is addictive and will slowly take its toll on who we really are. Are we truly happy, or happy only in the eyes of audience?
Instead of feeling envious over a superficial life, how about planting efforts and precious time in making a happier us? Before we know it, a happy mind reflects positive vibes. A true self over social media without any depressing attempts, and we wouldn’t even realised how beautiful we have become.
“I am proud of who I am. I love and enjoy being me.”
